SUMMARY:“Homestead Florida: From Railroad Boom to Sonic Boom”
DESCRIPTION:  \nThis presentation highlights notable events and individuals who weave together the history in and around Homestead. Homestead was born among the pine trees of South Florida and quickly became a city. From the simple act of how the name “stuck” to decades of ordinary life touched by tragedy and change\, enjoy a range of stories shared from the Homestead Town Hall Museum. The museum’s collection of photographs\, documents\, and other artifacts is the largest organized collection of artifacts in the county and state. Come learn why J. Edgar Hoover did once stay at the historic Redland Hotel. Or perhaps what you know about the founding of Everglades National Park is only part of the story? You’ll find all this out and more. The Museum is in the original Town Hall which was the first municipal building opened after Homestead incorporated in 1913. \nKatherine Fleming currently serves as the Acting Director of the Historic Homestead Town Hall Museum.  She first became associated with the museum more than fifteen years ago when she volunteered to be the museum’s archivist.  She soon became a member of the Museum Board and Treasurer for the organization.
